Law Firm Points to Insurers Who Don’t Pay their Debts.
12 July 07
Merseyside based solicitors, Camps Solicitors, have issued a stark warning to motor insurance companies who don’t pay their dues. The firm, who specialise in acting for those individuals who have been injured in road traffic or other accidents, revealed that they have noticed a rise in the number of cases where insurance companies agree to pay sums of money but then fail to pay out in the time periods ordered by the courts or to which they themselves have agreed.
This means that solicitors have little alternative but to take yet further court action to force the insurance companies to honour their agreements and the court orders made against them. Since the start of the year Camps Solicitors have had to issue enforcement proceedings in around 40 cases, and the number is still rising. So far, in June, there have been 7 cases where enforcement proceedings have had to be issued against either insurance companies or their policyholders. Insurance companies always receive reminder letters and/or telephone calls chasing payments and yet still the cheques don’t arrive.
Commenting on the figures, Colin Billing, senior partner at Camps Solicitors said:
"People already have to wait too long to receive their compensation, often due to insurers dragging their feet over making offers or making unacceptably low which means cases have to go to court to get a reasonable amount of compensation. The courts already allow a generous 28 days for insurance companies to pay judgements and for them not to be able to send cheques in this timescale and make people wait again is simply inexcusable. It is high time that the public were made aware of what is going on."
